Here in my world, we use the Pimsleur language training program, the best way to learn a new language without having your mother teach you.
With Pimsleur, you don't need to spend hours in a classroom reading textbooks. The system is entirely audio. Listen in your car while driving to work or school! It's not necessary to repeat lessons as with other language methods. The Pimsleur system was designed as a continuous listening experience. It focuses on developing a core vocabulary and proper pronunciation (try getting that from a book!). Learn more about The Pimsleur Method!
Try listening to a Pimsleur sample lesson in your desired language! By the end of the first 30 minute lesson, you should be able to speak and understand a previously incomprehensible phrase in a foreign language. If you know of a more effective way of learning a new language, I'll eat my headphones!
